Reiki is a form of light touch that helps to calm the body and bring about a balanced state of relaxation and rejuvenation. Reiki gently influences the body in shifting from the sympathetic nervous system (fight, flight or freeze) to the parasympathetic nervous system (rest, digest and repair), so your system can more easily access its own self-healing abilities. Reiki practice integrates safely with any necessary medical care and is ideal for health concerns where massage is not recommended.

You will remain clothed, so be sure to wear comfortable clothing. You will lay on a traditional massage table on your back (accommodations may be made if this is an uncomfortable position for you.) The Reiki practitioner will place her hands lightly on your body and hold for a period of time, working usually from the head down to the feet. If anything feels uncomfortable to you at any time, please be sure to let the practitioner know so she can ensure your comfort during the session.

More About Reiki
Reiki is a spiritual practice and way of life that enhances our awareness of our own inner being and inner resources. For a great article that explains this in more detail, I encourage you to read Reiki: A Spiritual Practice or Religion? by Pamela Miles.
Learning Reiki
Learning Reiki allows you to practice self-treatments and consistently receive the benefit of Reiki on a daily basis, in between scheduled sessions with a Reiki practitioner. Although I no longer teach Reiki classes specifically, we can include time in your session for learning simple techniques and practices you can use to support your own sense of well-being at home. Please be in touch if you'd like to learn more.
